DAILY DEVOTIONS:Jul 9
St. Augustine Zhao Rong and Companions
Then he said to his disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the master of the harvest to send out laborers for his harvest.”
- Matthew 9:37-38
The heart of Jesus was moved with pity as he spoke these words while gazing on a crowd that was “troubled and abandoned” (verse 36). The gift that is Jesus’ heart lives within each of us. We are called to do what we can to see life through his heart. Life, as seen through the heart of Jesus, reveals its true nature. Life can then be heard in the cry of the lonely and abandoned, in the desperate wanderings of refugees in search of shelter, food, clothing, a home. It can be overwhelming to look deeply into life with a heart moved by God’s grace. But our hope as Christians is that God is with us as we labor to find ways to respond to those in our midst who are in need. Our means may be limited, but our harvest master can use them to bring forth abundant good.
