HEADING AND TOPPING IN LIFE
TEXT: DEUTERONOMY 28: 13
“And the Lord shall make thee the head, and not the tail; and thou shalt be above only, and thou shalt not be beneath; if that thou hearken unto the commandment of the Lord thy God, which I command thee this day, to observe and to do them†(Deuteronomy 28: 13).
In 2013, a 20-year-old Nigerian, Osareme Anita Omonuwa, bagged a first class degree in Law at Reading University, United Kingdom. Osareme also became the first black female to receive the Chancellor’s award in 2012 for outstanding academic performance. The Chancellor described her as a “Representative of our brightest and best students.†Osareme’s performance is a good example of heading and topping in life, and a challenge to youths. This kind of top performance does not however come to the lazy. Osareme is not only intelligent but also hard working. A youth who wants to be at the top in education, career or Church ministry must be a hard worker. Our text assures that youths who obey God’s commandment will be head and above only. Are you obedient to God’s commandments? Matthew Henry says: “Those that make the Word of God their rule, and consciously walk by that rule shall both do well and speed well.†Consecrate your life to Christ and obey Him in all things. As you obey God and labour you will reach the top.
Challenge: Consecrate your life to God and excel.
Prayer: Help me Lord to obey your commandments and excel.
Quote: You will reach the top.
