Holy Spirit Power
The Holy Spirit reminds us that every believer is a possessor of everything in Christ. The man who has God for his portion lacks nothing and has everything that makes him happy. It doesn’t matter what church we attend, how much money we make, if we live or die, or who is in the White House. In Christ we possess eternity, mercy, grace, citizenship in heaven, sonship, and total acceptance. This reality frees us to love the people in our life more aggressively and sacrificially. “Remember,” He says, “all is yours.”
The Holy Spirit reminds us of the full measure of acceptance and affirmation God has given us to enter into relationship with Him. It grieves the Holy Spirit when we willfully take all of God’s grace, but we’re greedy with His grace in our relationships. It is a sobering thought and puts us in the right frame of mind to connect with others, forgive others, make allowances for others’ faults and pursue peace with others. “Remember,” he says, “but for the grace of God in your life, where would you be.”
The Holy Spirit covers us with a sense of camaraderie. “Just as each of us has one body with many members and these members do not all have the same function, so in Christ we who are many form one body, and each member belongs to all the others.” Romans 12:4-5. The Holy Spirit shows us, “That’s your brother” and “That’s your sister.” As a dad and a son I know how this works. God is big on His children being each other’s biggest fans, biggest helps, and biggest supporters — not their biggest critics. He also likes to remind us that, by design, our brothers and sisters in Christ are not like us! We need everyone’s unique skills to get the kingdom job done.
Father, I’m beginning to see that freedom comes from understanding the Holy Spirit’s power within me to love others as I love myself.
