DAILY DEVOTIONS:Jul 11 ”All Things Will Be Well”

”All Things Will Be Well”

St. Benedict

It was really for the sake of saving lives that God sent me here ahead of you.

  • Genesis 45:5

The story of Joseph is one of the most familiar in Scripture. It is also one of the most incredulous and heartwarming. Incredulous because it is unfathomable that his brothers could sell him into slavery. Heartwarming in that, not only did Joseph find favor in Pharaoh’s house, but during the time of famine in Israel, he forgave his brothers for their dastardly deed when they went down into Egypt for food.

It is also a story that illustrates how God works in our own lives. How, when we think we are left with nothing but lemons, the hand of God provides a huge pitcher of lemonade.

Too often we are left wondering why something happened, and it is only in hindsight that we better glimpse the reason. It is with time that we come to understand the wisdom of Julian of Norwich (13th century anchoress) when she said, “All things will be well, and all things will be well, and all manner of things will be well.”
