Expect Moral Temptation
“When the devil had finished all this tempting, he left him until a more opportune time.” Luke 4:13
Satan does not concern himself when you are eating cereal, brushing your teeth, or making a pit stop. These are physical functions that don’t affect your relationship with God and his people. However, the moment you cross into the world where your character can express itself in conduct, he’s there. Satan crafts moral temptation to fit hand in glove with you. In his malicious and perverse way, he’s looking to meet the specific needs of his “customer.” He does his homework, pulls up your past, examines your insecurities, researches your triggers, and investigates your less noble ways of dealing with pressure, stress, and responsibility. Satan never accidently tempts man. This means his timing always coalesces with what’s going on inside a man at any given moment, Get that!
Satan targets David: One night David walks around the roof of his palace, sees a beautiful naked woman and thinks; let see, male, visually stimulated, powerful, conquer type, successful, entitled, Got it! Naked hottie taking a bath, perfect.
Whatever is ruling your emotions at the time will be used against you when he strikes. You can predict when Satan will strike. Where am I when I’m most tempted, Who am I with or not with, How am I feeling, what time of day is it, am I in conflict with anybody, what are my core insecurities or fears, what situation causes me to get defensive.
Know the answers to these questions and take precautions so you can guard against the attack.
Thank you, Father, for the preparation and presence of your Holy Spirit.
