(His Instructions Are For Your Benefit)

TO THE BIBLE Proverbs 8:10-11 CEVOpen in Logos Bible Software (if available)
“Let instruction and knowledge mean more to you than silver or the finest gold. Wisdom is worth much more than precious jewels or anything else you desire.”

When it was time for Israel to capture Jericho, Joshua (Israel’s leader at the time) knew he couldn’t sit down with the elders and soldiers of Israel to plan the attack. The walls surrounding the city of Jericho were formidable enough to discourage the entire Israelite camp. However, Joshua knew that their victory could only be by means of a divine strategy. So he turned away from every distraction to meditate and wait on the Lord.

It wasn’t long before the Holy Spirit appeared to him and gave him specific instructions: “March around the city once with all the armed men. Do this for six days…On the seventh day, march around the city seven times, with the priests blowing the trumpets. When you hear them sound a long blast on the trumpets, have the whole army give a loud shout; then the wall of the city will collapse and the army will go up, everyone straight in” (Joshua 6:3-5 NIVOpen in Logos Bible Software (if available)).

When the Israelites did exactly as the Lord instructed, the great walls of Jericho fell down flat, and they were able to capture the land. When God gives you an instruction, it may seem outlandish, just as it did in Joshua’s case, but such instructions are the keys to your success, promotion, and continuous victory in life. Those who aren’t aware of this truth ignore God’s instructions and go with what they consider to be logical or reasonable.

Yet, God’s wisdom remains the sure path to guaranteed success, and He communicates this wisdom to us through His instructions. That’s why Proverbs 3:5-6Open in Logos Bible Software (if available) charges you to “trust GOD from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own. Listen for GOD’s voice in everything you do, everywhere you go; he’s the one who will keep you on track” (MSG).

Poverty and shame will come to him who [a]disdains correction,
But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

Dear Father, my spirit is ever open to receive your instruction which is my life. And with your counsel, I wage a good warfare, triumphing every day to the glory of your mighty Name. Amen.
