TO THE BIBLE Ephesians 2:10Open in Logos Bible Software (if available) AMPC

“For we are God’s [own] handiwork (His workmanship), recreated in Christ Jesus, [born anew] that we may do those good works which God predestined (planned beforehand) for us [taking paths which He prepared ahead of time], that we should walk in them [living the good life which He prearranged and made ready for us to live].”

On the eve of Brandon’s departure for college, his parents took him out for a special dinner. It was at the prestigious restaurant of a seven-star hotel, the best in the city. It was a beautiful evening and would certainly be one of the most memorable before his college life. After dinner, Mr. Simons, sitting at the other end of the table with his wife, looked at his son and said: “Son, life is a journey. It can be beautiful, but it can also be terrible. Your mum and I have great plans for you; we want you to have a great life and are playing our part, but how your life ultimately turns out is not entirely up to us but you.” How true!

Similarly, God has a plan for every child of His; however, locating yourself in that plan and fulfilling His destiny for you is your responsibility. Paul told Archippus in Colossians 4:17Open in Logos Bible Software (if available) GNB, “Be sure to finish the task you were given in the Lord’s service.” In other words, it’s not the Lord’s responsibility, but yours, to fulfill His calling and destiny for your life.

The way to go is simple. First, you must have a good knowledge and understanding of God’s Word. His Word is His Wisdom and Light (Proverbs 1:20Open in Logos Bible Software (if available), 23Open in Logos Bible Software (if available); Psalm 119:130Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)). The Word is full of divine counsel that would guide you to know and function in God’s perfect will for your life. Next, you must yield yourself to the Holy Spirit. He’s the One who would unveil the unknown to you, and help you discover yourself in God’s dream.

23 But this is what I commanded them, saying, ‘Obey My voice, and I will be your God, and you shall be My people. And walk in all the ways that I have commanded you, that it may be well with you.’

But when the Friend comes, the Spirit of the Truth, he will take you by the hand and guide you into all the truth there is. He won’t draw attention to himself but will make sense out of what is about to happen and, indeed, out of all that I have done and said.

I’m growing in grace and in the knowledge of God’s Word; therefore, I know His divine plans and perfect will for my life! I’m guided by the Spirit, and propelled by divine wisdom in the direction of God’s destiny for me.
