Jeremiah 1:9 (NIV)

Then the Lord reached out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me, “I have put my words in your mouth.

Notice that God put His words into the mouth of young Jeremiah before he did anything to qualify as a prophet. To see a young man with the word of the Lord would be an unsettling sight for that day, but it would also confirm that it is God who qualifies us to do anything. We have a tendency to want to get our life straight, then we can be used by the Lord, but the Bible gives us a different picture: God begins to use us, then He uses the very call to purify our lives.
