I have reason to be angry.
- Jonah 4:9
There is nothing quite like a toddler in the middle of a temper tantrum. It’s not a pretty sight. That cute face turns red with rage, screams pierce the air (and eardrums), and those angry limbs kick up a storm. You can bet it all starts when that little one wants something and doesn’t get it. Of course, as adults, we know better than to throw tantrums when we don’t get our way–or do we?
Jonah counted on the Lord to punish the people of Ninevah. When that didn’t happen, Jonah had a meltdown. We all do at times, don’t we? We sulk, we lash out, we even look for other ways to get what we want. Jonah was no exception. But that anger of his blinded him as it often blinds us. Jonah failed to see that God’s loving mercy for others also extended to him.
Help us, Lord, to see with a wide-angle lens.
