LIKE FATHER, LIKE CHILDREN

(The World Sees God When They See Us)

📖 TO THE BIBLE
Deuteronomy 5:8-9Open in Logos Bible Software (if available) GNB “Do not make for yourselves images of anything in heaven or on earth or in the water under the earth. Do not bow down to any idol or worship it, for I am the LORD your God and I tolerate no rivals….”

◀️ LET’S TALK
Some people have different misconceptions of the personality of God. They believe He’s the universe, and represented by every form—living and nonliving things. By that, they mean, if you see a great stone or a huge tree, for instance, that’s God; anything you want God to be represented with, that’s who and where He is. No, that’s ignorance on rampage! God isn’t a stone or tree you see at the park; He’s the creator of the whole world. The Psalmist said of Him: “At the beginning You existed and laid the foundations of the earth; the heavens are the work of Your hands” (Psalm 102:25Open in Logos Bible Software (if available) AMPC). He created all things; therefore, He’s greater than all of creation and can’t be represented by His creatures, for He’s too great for that.

The book of Acts shows how Apostle Paul encountered certain Athenian philosophers, who had a muddled idea about God’s personality. Paul, in his response to them, said: “Since we are God’s children, we must not think that he is like an idol made out of gold or silver or stone. He isn’t like anything that humans have thought up and made. In the past, God forgave all this because people did not know what they were doing. But now he says that everyone everywhere must turn to him” (Acts 17:29-30 CEVOpen in Logos Bible Software (if available)). He made them realise the reason they likened or represented God with physical objects was because of their ignorance of who He is.

Jesus said in John 14:9Open in Logos Bible Software (if available), “…He who has seen Me has seen the Father….” He’s the express image of the Father’s person (Hebrews 1:3Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)). Being born again, we too have the life and nature of the Father. Like Jesus, we can say, if you have seen me, you have seen the Father: “…As He is, so are we in this world…” (1 John 4:17Open in Logos Bible Software (if available)). We’re today the effulgence of His glory, the express image of His person, sharers of His life and partakers of His divine nature.
