Benefits of Scripture Memorisation (II) (Mountain Of Fire and Miracle Ministries, MFM Daily Devotional 17 February 2019)
Bible In One Year: Leviticus 21-22; Matthew 28
FIRE SCRIPTURE: Matthew 4:1-11
MEMORY VERSE: “A word fitly spoken is like apples of gold in pictures of silver.” – Proverbs 25:11
The MESSAGE:
Yesterday, we learnt that when we memorise the Scripture, we would earn the power to be like Christ and conform to His image. We also learnt that memorising the Scripture will enable us to triumph over sin every day. It is therefore, undoubtedly, an important exercise for our Christian life.
In addition to the first and second benefits we learnt yesterday, here are other benefits you will derive from memorising the Scripture. The third benefit is that you will have daily triumph over satan. In Matthew 4:1-11, when Jesus was tempted by satan in the wilderness, he recited Scripture from memory and put satan to flight. In whatever way the devil comes to you to tempt or deceive you, the word of God is still the most potent weapon to confront him and defeat him with. Memorise it and you will be able to recite it from memory both in the physical and in the dream world. Your victory over satan will be guaranteed.
Another benefit of memorising the Scripture is that you will find it easier to give comfort and counsel to people you love. As a believer, you are expected to encourage, comfort and counsel others. Your Bible may not be handy when you want to do these. If you have God’s word richly stored in your memory, you will do a good job of comforting and counselling others. You will have the right words from the Bible for every situation. Proverbs 25:11 says, “A WORD fitly spoken is like apples of gold in a setting of silver”. In other words, when the heart full of God’s love can draw on the mind full of God’s word, timely blessings flow from the mouth.”
Apart from the foregoing, memorising the Scripture enables us to communicate the gospel to unbelievers. All believers are called to share the gospel and win souls for Christ. How can you fulfil the Great Commission successfully without being thoroughly armed with the word of God? Sometimes, opportunities to share the gospel come when we do not have our Bible in hand. When we memorise and white appropriate Scriptures as we share the gospel, the power of God’s word will penetrate the heart of the listeners and have great impact on them. To be effective at sharing the gospel and winning souls for God, we should all be able to sum up the gospel under four main headings: 1) God’s holiness/law/glory; 2) Man’s sin/rebellion/disobedience; 3) Christ’s death for sinners; 4) The free gift of life by faith. Learn a verse or two relating to each of these, and be ready in season and out of season to share them. Beloved, God’s words are very precious. I encourage you to memorise them.
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTE:
THE BIBLE IN THE MEMORY IS BETTER THAN THE BIBLE IN THE BOOK CASE.
PROPHETIC WORD:
God’s word in you will raise every dead thing to life now.
PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
Every commandment of darkness against my destiny, scatter, in the name of Jesus.
Any satanic intermediary assigned against me, scatter, in the name of Jesus.
Word of God, enter my life, give me light, order, beauty and peace, in the name of Jesus.
EVENING
Let the powers of the emptires surrounding my breakthroughs, die, in the name of Jesus.
Any power assigned to demote my destiny, fall down and die, in the name of Jesus.
Let infirmity magnet backfire, in the name of Jesus.
Yoke of limitation upon my life, break by fire, in the name of Jesus.
