‘I Can See Clearly Now’
He took the blind man by the hand… Putting spittle on his eyes he laid his hands on him and asked, “Do you see anything?” Looking up he replied, “I see people looking like trees and walking.” Then he laid hands on his eyes a second time and he saw clearly; his sight was restored and he could see everything distinctly.

  • Mark 8:23-25
This story of Jesus in Bethsaida, the only one where he heals a blind man in stages, came back to me right after I had cataract surgery and my vision was blurry. (I stopped myself from saying to the doctor, “You look like a tree walking.”) While my eyes were healing, I realized we have parallel “Bethsaida” vision moments spiritually. At first, we mostly hear of God’s love but don’t really see it personally. Then, something actually touches us in our lives, an unexpected goodness, and we begin to catch a glimpse of Divine Love. Then, touched again with unmistakable tenderness, our heart’s vision clears, and we see distinctly–we are beloved!
