THE CLEAR CONSCIENCE
TEXT: ACTS 23:1
BIBLE TEXT:
“And Paul, earnestly beholding the council, said, Men and brethren, I have lived in all good conscience before God until this day” (ACTS 23:1).
A preacher described a clear conscience as a state of heart in which your heart does not condemn you before God and man. It means we can look everyone we know in the eyes without shame and know that we are right with them. Recall how Samuel could boldly tell the Israelites, “Here I am; testify against me before the LORD and before his anointed. Whose ox have I taken? Or whose donkey have I taken? Or whom have I defrauded? Whom have I oppressed? Or from whose hand have I taken a bribe to blind my eyes with it? Testify against me and I will restore it to you.” The people testified that he was clean. A guilty conscience puts a barrier between you and your God as you will not be able to approach the throne of grace boldly. If your heart condemns you, know that God is greater than your heart. A man with guilt laden conscience is prone to live a life of low self-esteem which can lead to permanent hardness of heart. Salvation is the gateway to a clear conscience.
