God Promises We Will Inherit His Blessings – (1st Peter 3:9)
Bible Promise
I have called you to inherit My blessing.
Verse Text
Finally, all of you be of one mind, having compassion for one another; love as brothers, be tenderhearted, be courteous; not returning evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary blessing, knowing that you were called to this, that you may inherit a blessing.
Reading Notes
It has been said that, “all the promises of God are yes in Christ Jesus our Lord!” This is because Jesus is the fulfillment of all God’s promises. Everything God has for us to inherit from His kingdom, including all of the spiritual gifts are ours, because we belong to Jesus through faith alone. Jesus himself told us the scriptures testify of Him, because they show us that He alone has paid the price for our redemption. This is because the mercy and grace of God have been extended to us in Christ, through whom we have received adoption, undeserved blessings, salvation and eternal life. And if that were not enough, through our faith in Him and His work for us on the Cross of Calvary, His righteousness has been imputed or freely credited to us. Therefore, if God did this for us while we were at enmity with Him, shouldn’t we all the more show the same grace to those who are fellow heirs in the kingdom of God with us? And that’s what these passages are speaking about. Through faith we have been adopted into the family of God and we have become joint-heirs with Jesus in the kingdom of God.
Therefore, we as children of God, should be merciful, supportive and a blessing to those around us, because of what Jesus did for us. And because of our love for Him and for our brothers and sisters who have inherited the kingdom with us, we serve each other within the body of Christ, which is the church! Because of the love Jesus showed for us, we have the grace of God given to us. And our salvation by faith alone, secures for us eternity in His presence. Why then shouldn’t we show the same grace and forgiveness to others? The answer is we should! Moreover, we are expected to by Jesus. Jesus told us we are to forgive others, and He has given us the power to do so, through the Holy Spirit’s work in us. Through the process of sanctification we gain the ability to truly forgive others. In addition, we will also receive more now as the Holy Spirit continues His work of sanctification in us, and so much more later, when we go home to be with Christ. This means we as followers of Jesus and children of God, are called to extend the same undeserved forgiveness and love to others who have wronged us. And when we do so, we shall receive additional blessings from God because we have shown the love of God to those in the fallen world around us.
