Mercies upon Mercies
SUNDAY
2 Sam 7:1-2, 4-5 & 16 (NIV)
After the king was settled in his palace and the LORD had given him rest from all his enemies around him, he said to Nathan the prophet, “Here I am, living in a palace of cedar, while the ark of God remains in a tent.” *That night the word of the LORD came to Nathan, saying: “Go and tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD says: *Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.'”
Author PhotoAfter God had granted David victory in all his battles and David was at rest, David did not conclude that all his victories resulted from his own abilities. He acknowledged that it was God that had granted him victories and rest. He then began to consider appreciating God by building God a temple. God was so moved by David’s desire and even though God did not allow him to build the temple, God released abundant blessings upon David, his household and his entire generation, 2Samuel 7:5-17. As you praise, worship, thank and acknowledge God for His mercies in your life, He will show you so much more of His mercies.
While Michal was despising David for the manner in which he zealously danced before God, David reminded her that it was before God that he was dancing and that it was God who chose him from nowhere to make him king in place of her father. He said he would even dance much more than that before God, 2Sam.6:20-22. Perhaps Michal felt that it was because her father deserved it that he became king, but David knew that it was by the mercies of God that he was chosen king. As such, he was deeply grateful and willing to do anything to thank and praise God. David was also grateful for the restoration of the ark of God back to Israel. David knew how to acknowledge and appreciate God for His mercies. Beloved, don’t let anybody stop you from giving God the kind of praise and thanksgiving that He deserves today. You alone know how merciful He has been to you.
THANKSGIVING GUIDE: Think about how merciful God has been to you and your loved ones and pour out your gratitude to Him.
