Do not be wise in your own eyes; fear the Lord and shun evil.

– Proverbs 3:7 (NIV)

Today’s commentary

by Dave Whitehead, Author of Making Sense of the Bible

We often think that we know more than really do, and this creates a barrier to learning. But as we become less wise in our own eyes we open ourselves to knowledge that can change our lives. This posture requires humility, and the root of humility is in the fear of the LORD. God is greater than all, and that understanding should cause us to be less dogmatic about our own thoughts and more gracious to the perspectives of others.
