Many, Lord, are asking, “Who will bring us prosperity?” Let the light of your face shine on us. Fill my heart with joy when their grain and new wine abound.

– Psalm 4:6-7 (NIV)

This psalm contrasts the perspectives of those who are after God against those who only want the blessings that God provides. There are many people who are asking for prosperity, when the Psalmist is asking for understanding of God Himself. There is nothing wrong with the abundance of food and drink, but those blessings can cause us to easily lose sight of the One wants to fill our hearts with something that is even greater—His joy.
