BREAK THE BOASTING BARRIER
TEXT: LUKE 16:19, 23A
BIBLE TEXT:
“There was a certain rich man, which was clothed in purple and fine linen, and fared sumptuously every day…And in hell he lifted up his eyes being in torments…†(Luke 16:19, 23a).
In the gospel of Mark 10:25 the Lord Jesus declares that, “It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.†Actually, our Lord is not saying here that rich people will not make heaven. Rather, He is referring to that tendency in rich men to become proud because of their riches and popularity. As a result of their riches, they look down on the gospel that will save their souls from hell. The rich man in our text was indeed rich. He lived in affluence and wore the best of clothes while on earth. In fact, people like Lazarus could not afford to buy the kind of meals he provided for his dogs. So his riches went into his head. He rejected the gospel. He scorned and scared away the gospel preachers. For some, it is their beauty, education or family background that makes them look down on the gospel. What is the boasting barrier in your life? For the rich man, repentance was too late.
Challenge: Be born again; conquer boasting and pride.
Prayer: Lord, deliver me from pride.
Quote: For the rich man, repentance was too late.
